I'm a thinker and a doer—I have a good balance of the two. I’ve spent my career telling stories and championing education organizations and policies that work to break down the systemic barriers preventing all students from thriving.
I had the pleasure of serving in the Obama Administration as the press secretary and key communications adviser for U.S. Education Secretaries Arne Duncan and John B. King Jr. Prior to that, I worked in communications for the Georgia Department of Education. I’m a recovering journalist—six years as a national education reporter for The Associated Press and another five covering higher education at the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Reporters know they can (and should!) come to me for stories, and organizations hire me to help them tell their story.
I’m a native of Memphis, a proud University of Tennessee alum, and the daughter of a lifelong educator and a professional clown. I’m an activist and volunteer with DC Mutual Aid and Moms Demand Action DC, because social justice is justice for all. I live in Washington, D.C., with my tech startup husband, son and a very tiny dog who often attends my video meetings. In short, I’m a mom, a wife, an entrepreneur, and your biggest fan.
